Annapolis, MD (JK) – Maryland House Republicans are criticizing the Moore Administration after a new state audit found significant problems within the state’s Medicaid program.
According to the audit, the agency improperly paid about $2.8 million for services provided to deceased individuals and $6.4 million for services involving incarcerated people. Auditors also found delayed processing of care plan charges, potentially improper payments totaling up to $145 million due to age-verification issues, and $2.3 million paid to ineligible recipients in 2024.
The Office of Legislative Audits rated the agency’s accountability and compliance as “unsatisfactory” and noted that many of the findings were repeat problems identified in previous audits.
Republican lawmakers say the report is part of a broader pattern of management issues uncovered in recent audits of other state agencies, including the departments of environment, education, and social services.
The General Assembly approved measures during the 2026 legislative session aimed at improving accountability and reducing repeat audit findings across state government.
