CHARLES TOWN, WV (JK) – Motorists should expect road closures, parking restrictions and heavy traffic in downtown Charles Town on Saturday as WV Fest returns to the city.
The festival is scheduled for June 13 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in downtown Charles Town. Organizers say parking restrictions and street closures will begin at 5 a.m. to allow for event setup. Any vehicle remaining in posted event areas after that time may be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.
Washington Street, also known as West Virginia Route 51, will be closed to vehicle traffic between West Street and Mildred Street. Additional closures will affect the 100 blocks of North and South George Street, North and South Charles Street, North and South Lawrence Street, and North and South Samuel Street.
Drivers traveling westbound on Route 51 are encouraged to use Liberty Street as an alternate route, while eastbound traffic should use Congress Street. Motorists traveling north and south on Route 115 are advised to use Mildred Street.
City officials expect significant traffic congestion throughout the day because of the large number of festival attendees. Residents and travelers who do not plan to attend the event or visit downtown businesses are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.
WV Fest features live entertainment, vendors, food, games and family-friendly activities throughout downtown Charles Town. Roads are expected to reopen following the conclusion of the event once conditions are determined to be safe.
