Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Montgomery County Police have arrested a White Oak man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a Lyft driver at gunpoint in Silver Spring.
Detectives say 28-year-old Alexander Cleveland Hailey entered a Lyft on May 24 and allegedly pulled out a handgun, ordering the driver to continue driving. The driver stopped the vehicle in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road and escaped on foot.
According to investigators, Hailey fled the scene but left behind evidence that helped detectives identify him as the suspect.
Police obtained an arrest warrant on May 28 charging Hailey with first-degree assault, kidnapping and other related offenses. He was arrested the following day in the 8400 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit for booking.
