Taneytown, MD (JK) – Taneytown Police say they have identified the driver of a white work-style camper van that was reported approaching children Monday afternoon, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Officers were dispatched to Cambridge Court at approximately 12:09 p.m. on June 30 after receiving a report that a man in a white work or camper van offered candy to children. According to police, the children ran away, and the van left the area, last seen turning onto Grand Drive.
Earlier in the investigation, police released a stock image of a similar van because investigators did not have an exact make or model. The image was later updated to better match witness descriptions of the white vehicle.
Police announced Tuesday that the driver has now been identified and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Investigators are still asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has doorbell or surveillance video from the Cambridge Court or Grand Drive area around the time of the incident to contact Officer Longo at Jlongo@taneytownmd.gov or the Taneytown Police Department non-emergency line at 410-751-1150.
Police say they understand the incident has raised concerns in the community and are continuing to investigate before releasing additional details.
