Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – A Gaithersburg man is facing charges after police say he brandished a stolen handgun during a dispute outside a restaurant early Saturday morning.
According to the Gaithersburg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:29 a.m. on July 5 to La Curvita Restaurant in the unit block of East Diamond Avenue for a reported trespassing incident and verbal dispute involving an armed man.
Police say the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Andres Melendez of Gaithersburg, attempted to leave the area in a vehicle as officers arrived. Officers stopped the vehicle and took him into custody without incident.
During the investigation, officers recovered a black handgun from the vehicle that had been reported stolen. Police also say Melendez was found carrying more than $8,000 in U.S. currency and prescription narcotics.
Melendez was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was processed and formally charged. Additional information about the charges has not yet been released.
