Frederick, MD (JK) – Two men were arrested early Wednesday after Frederick County Sheriff’s deputies interrupted what investigators say was an attempted catalytic converter theft.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies with the Proactive Criminal Enforcement (PACE) Team and K-9 Unit were conducting surveillance on a vehicle believed to be connected to recent catalytic converter thefts when it parked near Old Camp Road and Stonegate Drive around 2:45 a.m.
Deputies say one of the suspects exited the vehicle carrying a Sawzall and crawled underneath a parked van. Officers immediately moved in and arrested both men without incident.
Investigators identified the suspects as 50-year-old Robert Droneburg of Frederick and 35-year-old Jared Specht of Sykesville.
Authorities say a search of the suspects and their vehicle uncovered burglary tools commonly used to steal catalytic converters, suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, multiple registration plates, and two catalytic converters believed to have been stolen.
Both men were charged with multiple misdemeanor offenses. Following an appearance before a District Court commissioner, Droneburg and Specht were released on their own recognizance.
Anyone with information related to catalytic converter thefts is asked to contact the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office at 301-600-1046 or submit a tip through the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 301-600-4131.
