Five additional measles cases have been reported in Maryland, prompting a public health warning.
State health officials say the cases involve Central Maryland residents who recently traveled together to an area of the country with an active measles outbreak. Investigators say people who visited the Carroll Hospital Center emergency department waiting room in Westminster between 2 and 5 p.m. on July 13 could have been exposed. The new cases raise Maryland’s total to nine confirmed measles infections this year.
Officials are encouraging anyone who may have been exposed to monitor for symptoms, verify their vaccination status, and contact a healthcare provider if they are not fully vaccinated.
