A cyber scam involving fake Frederick County employees is prompting a warning from county officials.
The nationwide scam involves malicious actors impersonating county staff and requesting payment for permits or development-related fees. Fraudulent emails may ask recipients to reply in order to receive wire transfer instructions. Frederick County emphasizes that official application payments are made only through the county’s verified portal.
Anyone receiving a suspicious email claiming to come from Permits and Inspections, the Livable Frederick Planning and Design Office, or the Division of Planning and Permitting should not reply, click any links or send payment. Questions or concerns can be directed to the Division of Planning and Permitting at 240-674-1430.
