Baltimore, MD (JK) – A Washington County woman who failed to report to begin serving a 100-year prison sentence has been arrested in North Carolina.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 39-year-old Ashley Nicole Franklin was taken into custody Thursday in Winston-Salem by the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Franklin was convicted on Aug. 6, 2025, of first-degree child abuse resulting in death, involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a minor in connection with the April 2021 death of her 10-month-old daughter.
After receiving a total sentence of 100 years in prison, Franklin failed to appear to begin serving that sentence, prompting the Circuit Court for Washington County to issue a failure-to-appear warrant.
Following her arrest, Franklin was turned over to local authorities for processing and will be returned to Maryland to serve her sentence. Authorities credited the successful arrest to coordination among federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
