Raymond Campbell III
A Washington County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced for a 2020 murder.
Raymond Campbell III received two consecutive life sentences Tuesday for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, along with an additional 35 years on firearms convictions. Campbell was found guilty by a Washington County jury in November 2025 following a five-day trial.
Prosecutors say he followed Daynard Johnson’s vehicle from the former Sheetz on West Washington Street to the intersection of Murph and Henry avenues on October 14, 2020, where he shot and killed the unarmed victim. An arrest warrant was issued the following month, but Campbell wasn’t captured until the spring of 2024, when he was arrested in California and extradited to Maryland.
