People who may have come into contact with a bat at Frederick’s Riverwalk Park are being advised to take precautions after rabies testing on the animal was inconclusive.
The Frederick County Health Department was notified Monday, August tenth, about the test results. Animal Control collected the bat on August sixth after a parent reported that her children and other children may have played with it at the park. As a precaution, the health department is treating any exposure to the bat as a possible exposure to rabies and recommends contacting a health care provider.
Officials stress there is no connection between this bat and the two rabid beavers recently found at Cunningham Falls State Park. Anyone who has contact with a wild or stray animal should call Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544.
