A 43-year-old Gaithersburg man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars after investigators uncovered explosive devices and untraceable firearms at his home.
Robert Stojinski was sentenced August 10, 2026, in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 54 years, with all but 25 years suspended, plus five years of supervised probation following his release. He pleaded guilty in April to charges involving the possession and manufacture of destructive devices and two counts of possessing firearms without serial numbers.
Police and fire crews were called to Stojinski’s home on Empress Court in October 2025 after an explosion. Investigators determined a pipe bomb had exploded. Stojinski told investigators he had placed fireworks inside a metal tube and used an electric initiator, then struck the device with a hammer. He suffered injuries to his hand and eye. A search uncovered additional explosive components, including a second live improvised explosive device, along with multiple privately made firearms and firearm parts lacking serial numbers.
Prosecutors say Stojinski also had a history of threatening violence.
