Frederick Community College will hold a ribbon-cutting Thursday, August 20, for its new Miller Center for Healthcare Training. The ceremony begins at 9:15 a.m. at Building M on the FCC campus at 7932 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, followed by a building tour.
The new center is designed to expand FCC’s capacity for short-term healthcare workforce training as demand for skilled healthcare workers continues to grow in Frederick County and the surrounding region. Seven short-term healthcare training programs currently housed at FCC’s Monroe Center will move to the new facility on the main campus. The move is expected to significantly increase healthcare training capacity while creating additional space at the Monroe Center for high-demand skilled-trade programs.
The Miller Center has been redesigned with simulated classrooms and laboratory environments that mirror real-world clinical settings. The goal is to give students more hands-on experience with current healthcare tools, techniques and technologies before entering the workforce.
Speakers at Thursday’s ceremony are scheduled to include FCC President Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek, Maryland Higher Education Commission Interim Secretary Elena Quiroz-Livanis, Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, Miller family representative James Hand and 2025 FCC graduate Juan Loya, who is now working as a dental assistant. The facility is named in recognition of the Carl and Norma Miller family and its longstanding commitment to the college and the community.
FCC currently describes its short-term workforce programs as career-focused training designed to prepare students for high-demand fields, including healthcare and the skilled trades.
