Three homes were damaged and 14 people were displaced following an early morning house fire in South Riding. Loudoun County Fire and Rescue received multiple 911 calls around 12:46 a.m. reporting a fire in the 25100 block of Fortitude Terrace.
Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage and exterior of a two-story home. The fire spread into the roof and attic. Firefighters used an aerial master stream before making an interior attack, and the bulk of the fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.
The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental and began near a chest freezer in the garage. Total estimated losses are just over $1,000,000. One adult occupant was evaluated at the scene for a minor injury but declined transport to a hospital.
Fourteen occupants from the home where the fire started and a neighboring home were displaced. The displaced residents were assisted by the American Red Cross.
