An electrical malfunction involving a television is believed to have caused an apartment fire in Hagerstown late Wednesday night.
Hagerstown firefighters were called to the unit block of East Baltimore Street shortly after 10 p.m. August 19 for a reported apartment fire. Crews found smoke coming from the apartment and smoke alarms sounding.
About 43 firefighters responded and searched the apartment while battling the fire, which was located in the living room. No occupants were found inside.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the fire was likely accidental. The occupant was not displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross with cleanup and repairs.
