Carroll County is among three Maryland counties now included in a measles outbreak declared by the Maryland Department of Health.
State health officials have identified 14 new confirmed cases in unvaccinated residents in Carroll, St. Mary’s and Cecil counties. Eight of the 27 cases confirmed statewide since July 15 are in Carroll County. There are now 31 confirmed measles cases in Maryland this year. Officials say there is no evidence of widespread community transmission, and most cases have involved household contacts. No public exposures have been identified in the new cases.
Health departments are working to provide vaccination opportunities, and residents are being urged to check their immunization records and make sure they are up to date on the M-M-R vaccine.
