Montgomery County Police have arrested a 23-year-old Burtonsville man in connection with the March 2025 killing of a Silver Spring man.
Bekine Tibebu Ayele is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindu Mutua.
Police say officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace around 11:04 a.m. on March 8, 2025, after a report of a shooting. Mutua was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in a parking lot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide.
During the investigation, homicide detectives identified 23-year-old Douglas David Lacey as the alleged shooter. Lacey was arrested in April 2025 and remains in custody under indictment for Mutua’s murder.
Police say the continuing investigation uncovered evidence that Ayele and Lacey conspired to kill Mutua and that Ayele hired Lacey to carry out the killing.
Ayele is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit while awaiting a bond hearing.
