A Washington County jury has convicted Steven Darrell Johnson of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment following a knife-related incident in Hagerstown.
According to the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from an incident March 17, 2026, in the area of South Potomac Street.
Following the jury trial on September 1, Judge Kirk C. Downey sentenced Johnson to five years of active incarceration with the Maryland Department of Corrections.
Assistant State’s Attorney Holland Burch prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by Hagerstown Police Officer Jeffrey Nicholls.
The State’s Attorney’s Office also recognized the victim, a third-party witness who came forward and testified, and the members of the jury for their participation in the case.
Johnson was convicted by a jury. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty; in this case, the jury found Johnson guilty of the charges.
