Montgomery County police have arrested a Lanham rideshare driver accused of raping a teenage girl in Silver Spring, and detectives are investigating whether there may be additional victims. Abdoulaye Dia is charged with first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault and third-degree sex offense.
Police say officers were called to a hospital Tuesday, September 15, after the girl reported she had been raped by an Empower rideshare driver. She told investigators Dia drove her to a parking lot in Silver Spring, where the assault occurred.
Special Victims Investigations Division detectives identified Dia through information obtained from the rideshare application. Dia was arrested Wednesday, September 16, in Lanham by the Montgomery County Police Repeat Offenders Unit. He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Dia is asked to contact the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050.
