A Gaithersburg man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for selling fentanyl to a 15-year-old girl who later died from the drug.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kelvin Reyes was convicted of distributing controlled substances and will serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence.
Court documents say the teen contacted Reyes through Instagram late on January 13th, 2023, to arrange a fentanyl purchase. Reyes asked for an address and agreed to deliver the drug. The girl directed him to meet her near an elementary school in Montgomery County. After the meeting, Reyes posted an Instagram story indicating he was driving around selling fentanyl. The following morning, the girl’s mother found her dead in her bedroom. An autopsy determined her cause of death was fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl intoxication.
