Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada has resigned at the request of County Executive Marc Elrich following an investigation by the county’s Office of the Inspector General.
The investigation found violations involving Yamada’s time away from work, including failing to take appropriate leave or adjust his schedule as required by police department policy. Investigators also raised concerns about the accuracy of statements Yamada made during the investigation. Elrich said the findings led him to determine that a change in police leadership was necessary.
Yamada served with the Montgomery County Police Department for nearly 40 years. Assistant Chief Darren Francke will serve as acting chief while the county searches for a permanent replacement.
County officials say they have also taken steps to address recommendations in the Inspector General’s report.
