The identities of the man killed and two Hagerstown police officers involved in a fatal police shooting have been released.
The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is investigating the October 23rd shooting on Randolph Avenue around 4:50 PM. Police say firefighters responding to an apartment fire encountered 60-year-old Maury Jackson inside and requested police assistance.
When officers arrived, Jackson ran from the apartment toward them. Officers issued verbal commands and deployed Tasers before firing their service weapons. Two knives were recovered at the scene. Jackson was taken to a hospital and later died. No officers were hurt.
The officers involved are Sergeant Thomas Wolfe, an 11-year veteran, and Officer Mason Kiessling, a one-year veteran. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information, including cell phone or surveillance video, is asked to contact the Independent Investigations Division.
