Frederick County Public Schools is getting high marks in the latest Maryland Report Cards.
For the 2025-26 school year, 73 percent of FCPS schools earned either four or five stars, compared with just 50 percent of schools across Maryland. Seven Frederick County schools earned five stars, the highest rating possible, and 15 schools ranked among the top 15 percent statewide. School officials say work at both the district and individual school levels to improve student achievement helped contribute to the strong results.
The Maryland report cards consider a number of factors, including performance in reading, math and science, academic growth, English language proficiency, chronic absenteeism and school climate. They also look at whether schools offer a well-rounded curriculum. Middle schools receive additional points for state social studies results, while high schools are evaluated on ninth-grade progress and graduation rates.
