Election night is over, and voters across Maryland and Frederick County have made their decisions in races ranging from Governor and Congressional seats to local county leadership.
At the state level, Democrat Wes Moore won another term as Governor, easily defeating Republican challenger Dan Cox. In Congressional District 6, Democrat April McClain Delaney defeated Republican Robin Ficker.
In the State Senate, Karen Lewis Young won District Three, Bill Folden took District Four, and Justin Ready won District Five.
Several seats in the Maryland House of Delegates were also decided. District Two-A winners are William Valentine and William Wivell. In District Three, voters chose Karen Simpson, Ken Kerr, and Kris Fair. District Four winners are Jesse Pippy, April Miller, and Jason Keckler. And in District Five, April Rose, Chris Tomlinson, and Steve Whisler won their races.
Frederick County voters chose Jessica Fitzwater over Jeff Holtzinger for County Executive. Democrat Karl Bickel defeated incumbent Sheriff Chuck Jenkins in the Sheriff’s race.
For County Council, the two at-large winners are Tiffany Grant and Renee Knapp. Louisa Conklin won District One, Jamie Shopland took District Two, and Christian Benford won District Three. Kavonte Duckett was elected in District Four, while Mason Carter won District Five.
Maryland voters also approved Question Three, a constitutional amendment giving state lawmakers more flexibility to redraw the state’s eight congressional districts. The approval does not immediately change district boundaries, but gives lawmakers greater authority to create a new congressional map.
Although voters have made their decisions, the election isn’t official just yet. Mail-in ballots will be canvassed beginning Thursday, provisional ballots will be counted starting November 11th, and local election boards are expected to certify the results November 13th.
