Officer-Involved Shooting In Frederick City Monday Night Under Investigation

The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was responding to a person with a mental health crisis.

Frederick, Md (KM) The investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting Monday night in downtown Frederick.

The Sheriff’s Office says at around 6:45 PM, one of its deputies was flagged down in the 300 block of North Market Street for an individual experiencing a mental health crisis in the parking lot of the Old Town Tavern. The individual approached the deputy with a knife. That person was given multiple commands to drop the weapon, but refused. The deputy fired one shot, striking the individual.

That person was treated at the scene, by deputies and EMS before being flown out to a trauma center. The Sheriff’s Office says that person is in stable condition. The deputy was not hurt.

Frederick Police are handling the investigation. The Maryland Attorney General’s Office’s Independent Investigations’  Division  was  was contacted, but declined to respond.

The Sheriff’s Office says there’s no danger to the community.
