Frederick, Md (KM) Thousands of people gathered on Saturday, June 14th for the “No Kings” rally at Mullinix Park in Frederick.  It was a protest against the Trump Administration and its policies and actions. Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor was one who took part, and he spoke at the rally.

“There are legitimate concerns from many people that the executive authority that this president is using is not aligned with the ideals of the democracy that was established by the Constitution in the late 1700’s,” says O’Connor.

He was a guest recently on WFMD’s “Morning News Express.”

The Mayor also took issue with those who question the patriotism of individuals who took part in that rally. “We may have different ways about how we want to achieve goals and objectives. But we cannot be the enemy within,” he says. “And we can’t vilify and villainize people in our own country–proud Americans, patriots, Democrats–just because we disagree with them; and we can’t do that to the other side as well.”

And he had  this message for those who disagree with citizens who took part in the rally. “We’re going to fight for what we believe in. We’re not going to give up what we think are hard fought, hard earned, rights and privileges pf about being an American.   And we think–I think–That makes me an American,” he says.

The “No Kings”  rally in Frederick was one of many held across the country on Saturday, June 14th. It was the same day as the US Army march in Washington DC which some critics of President Trump say was held to celebrate his 79th birthday.
