Cat Found In Woodsboro Area Tests Positive For Rabies

Residents who came into contact with this  feline are urged to contact their health care provider.

Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Health Department says a cat located on Thursday, June 19th along Woodsboro Pike near the southern edge of the town limits has tested positive for rabies.

The feline is described as an intact male gray and white about eight to ten years of age. The animal displayed an aggressive behavior which is a symptom of rabies infection.

Anyone who has had contact with this cat from June 5th through June 19th is urged to consult with their health care provider, and call the Health Department’s Community Health Services Office at 301-600-3342. . If your pets or livestock have had any contact with this cat, you need to get a hold your veterinarian, and notify the Environmental Health Office at the Health Department  at 301-600-1717;.

Symptoms of rabies in infected animals include excessive salivation, failure to eat or drink, limping and unusually friendly or aggressive behavior. It can also include nocturnal animals coming out during the day time.

Rabies is always fatal to humans if they’re infected, and post exposure treatment is not obtained in a timely matter.

The Frederick County Health Department is holding a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Sunday, June 29th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Thurmont Community Park.
