Residents urged to avoid the avoid waters around the City.
Brunswick, Md (KM) Residents and visitors in Brunswick are urged to avoid the waterways affected by a sewage overflow.
The Frederick County Health Department says the affected area is in the East Wenner Branch of the Potomac River. Waters in the East Wenner Branch near Concord Drive to the Catoctin Creek aqueduct in the Potomac River should be avoided.
Health officials say swimming and full body immersion should not take place in the affected area. But if you go into the water, you’re urged to wash yourself thoroughly with soap and warm water.
Boating and fishing are still allowed. Fish caught in these waters is safe to consume if it is cleared, scaled and cooked, the Health Departments says.
These restrictions are in place until Wednesday, July 23rd. The Health Department has posted signs along the stream and at public access points.
