Frederick County Superintendent Of Schools Receives Award

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick County Superintendent of Schools,  Dr. Cheryl Dyson, has received a national honor. She was named the recipient of the  Cookerly Exceptional School Superintendent Award from  the National Center for  Children and Families.

The award is named after Tom  Cookerly who believed every child should have the opportunity to thrive and succeed regardless of the circumstances.  Cookery founded the Neediest Kids program in 1972 in partnership with local school districts which ensures that children are not without the essentials when they head off to school. such as school supplies, eyeglasses, coats and other items.

“I am honored and humbled to learn of this recognition,” Dr. Dyson says in a statement. “In FCPS, we focus on supporting every student to ensure best outcomes for all students in our care. The work we do for our students is a shared commitment and a team effort.”

This is Dr. Dyson’s fourth year as Superintendent of Schools for Frederick County. In a news release, the school system describes her as a “fierce advocate” for children, and “works diligently” to make sure they thrive.

“This is not  just visionary leadership–it’s heart work,” the organization says in a statement announcing the award. “You understand that education is a lifeline, especially for children facing trauma, poverty or instability.”
