Motorists should expect some delays, closures.
Hagerstown, Md (KM) Motorists who travel Interstate 70 in Washington County need to know about some road work scheduled for next week. The Maryland State Highway Administration says crews will be making shoulder improvements to the I-70 bridges over Saint Paul Road near Clear Spring. Drivers can expect a right shoulder and lane closure on the eastbound span between 9:00 AM Monday, September 15th and 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 16th.
Once the eastbound work is completed, crews will start on the westbound bridge. .
The work will involve paving the shoulders to make them load bearing. SHA officials say both lanes will remain open during construction by switching traffic to the new load bearing shoulders.
The plan, according to the SHA, is to make sure there are two lanes of traffic in each direction except for intermittent single lane closures that will be done at night or during non-peak hours.
The contractor for the project, Triton Construction, Inc.., will use electronic sign boards, cones, and construction barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.
SHA says it’s part of a bridge replacement project which is expected to completed in 2027.
