North Bethesda Shooting: One Dead, Suspect Arrested in Kidnapping Case

Montgomery County Police are actively searching for two additional suspects following a deadly shooting and alleged abductions Sunday morning.

Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – A deadly shooting in North Bethesda early Sunday left one man dead and prompted an ongoing police investigation. Officers responded around 7:40 a.m. to the 5900 block of Montrose Road, where 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava was found inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say two adults in the apartment were allegedly kidnapped and forced into a vehicle after the shooting. One victim was later released in Silver Spring.

Authorities tracked the vehicle to Westfield Montgomery Mall, where the second victim was recovered and 37-year-old Sheldon Boykins of Hyattsville was arrested. Boykins faces two counts of kidnapping and firearms-related charges.

Montgomery County Police continue to search for two additional male suspects believed to be involved. The investigation remains active.
