Lunar New Year Coming In February

A celebration will be held at Frederick High School.

Frederick, Md (KM) We all know about the celebrations that will take place very soon to ring in 2026. But there is another New Year coming up in a few weeks: the Lunar New Year on February 17th.

The Director of Communications for the Asian-American Center in Frederick, Maryland, Mark Kraham, say there will be a celebration on Sunday, February 15th in Frederick to mark the Lunar New Year. “It will be Frederick High School. Again, the activities get started at noon. They’ll have vendor exhibits and family activities. And then the actual performance in the auditorium from two to four,”  Kraham says.

Elizabeth Chung, the Executive Director of the Asian-American Center, says the Lunar New Year is a time to plant new hope and new futures. She also says the celebration has attracted an audience from  outside of Frederick County, Maryland. “I remember each year, people, even from Pennsylvania, or New Jersey, or something. I remember that they come far away because Frederick is a great city and we have a great event and great communities to share. And just great memories every year,” says Chung.

Tickets for the celebration are $12.00;  $10.00 for children and seniors. Those who purchase their tickets through January 1st will only pay $8.00.

“This tickets help us to connect, to integrate, to do more for the community. I hope I will see everyone there. It’s less than a movie ticket,” Chung continues.”  $8.00 for 20 performances coming from all over, it’s Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia. Don’t miss it!”

Chung and Kraham were guests recently on the “Morning News Express” on WFMD with Bob Miller.
