Christmas Cash For Kids
In 1975, a simple phone call changed everything. An announcer at WZYQ took a heartbreaking call from a listener: a local Frederick family would have no Christmas. Instead of turning away, the disc jockey turned on the mic. That year, the station raised nearly $1,500—enough to bring Christmas joy to several families.
On a snowy Christmas Eve, “Santa” (the DJ) drove north of Frederick and found a wooden shack. Behind it, in a tiny shanty, lived a mother and her 3 children. When Santa knocked, a little girl threw her arms around him and exclaimed:
“My mommy said you’d be too busy, but I knew you’d come!”
And just like that—Christmas Cash for Kids was born.
🌟 A Tradition That’s Grown for 50 Years
For half a century, Christmas Cash for Kids has been a Frederick County tradition, growing into the single largest provider of toys and clothing for children who might otherwise go without.
This year is EXTRA special—we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of this incredible cause! 🙌 And we couldn’t do it without our amazing friends at McCaskill Financial, who help make the magic happen.

Every single dollar raised goes directly toward gifts and clothing. No overhead. No waste. Funds are spent right here in Frederick County, with strict oversight to ensure every penny is used wisely.
That’s why we ask: please don’t buy toys yourself. By donating, Christmas Cash for Kids can stretch your dollars further to buy exactly what’s needed—quality gifts, clothing, and supplies.

Businesses: Put out a collection can, hang a poster, or create fun fundraisers (dress-down days, funny hat Fridays, etc.)

Shoppers: Drop off a donation at the station or mail a check/money order payable to Christmas Cash for Kids.
