Yemi Art Unveiling for Christmas Cash for Kids

For nearly 50 years, 930 WFMD’s Christmas Cash for Kids has been a Frederick County tradition of giving. What started in 1975, when a radio DJ rallied the community to help a family facing Christmas with nothing, has grown into the county’s largest provider of toys and clothing for children in need. Every dollar raised goes directly to the cause—no overhead, no red tape—just pure holiday joy for local kids.

Year after year, businesses, schools, and neighbors join forces with WFMD and the Salvation Army to ensure children wake up to hope, warmth, and dignity on Christmas morning. From retail collection cans to fun community events, Frederick shows up big for its kids—and the results are powerful. In 2024 alone, the program raised more than $134,000 to support over 1,300 children from more than 600 families.

Now, as WFMD marks its 50th anniversary, we’re celebrating in a truly special way—through the artistry of one of Frederick’s brightest talents: Yemi Fagbohun.

Yemi is an internationally acclaimed muralist and illustrator whose work spans Fortune 500 brands, national publications, and even postage stamps in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. But his heart belongs to Frederick, where his murals, glass art, and iconic “Pillars of Frederick” have become community landmarks. Known for blending creativity with compassion, Yemi captures the spirit of the people and places that make Frederick unique.

That’s why it’s so fitting that Yemi is creating an original artwork to honor 50 years of Christmas Cash for Kids. The unveiling will take place at McCutcheon’s Apple Products (13 S Wisner St, Frederick)—home to one of his most famous murals.
