Driver Killed In One-Vehicle Crash On I-70 Near New Market

The other occupant was taken to the hospital.

One person was killed and a second individual was taken to Meritus Medical Center following a one-vehicle crash in Frederick County on Monday afternoon.

State Police say a Chevrolet  utility van operated by Eric Matthew Gaunt, 38, of Johnstown, Pa.,  was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 near Route 75 in the New Market area when he drove off the highway and on to the grassy,  median,  and then drove back on to the road. Gaunt  tried to regain control and over corrected. The van overturned several times, and came to a final rest on a guardrail.

Gaunt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger is identified as Brandon Maxwell Boesch, 21, of Sykesville, who was transported to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. But State Police say both occupants were using their seatbelts, and alcohol is not a factor in this accident.
