Seven vehicles were involved in the wreck.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 west of Hagerstown Wednesday afternoon left one person dead, and five others injured.

Maryland State Police say troopers were dispatched to the scene at around 5:00 PM, and learned that the crash involved seven vehicles, including a tractor trailer. They confirmed that one person was deceased. One individual was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The other four were taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

A portion of northbound I-81 near Exit 6 was closed for several hours while troopers conducted their investigation. Traffic was detoured onto Exit 6, and then got back on I-81 north of the crash site.  Southbound traffic was not affected.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
