Suspicious Package Closes Hagerstown Streets

Fire officials say its contents were harmless.


(Hagerstown, Md) (KM)  Streets near the Hagerstown Police Department on North Burhans Boulevard were closed Saturday night while authorities investigated a suspicious backpack.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says a man with the backpack entered police headquarters, saying he needed help. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center for an evaluation.

In the meantime, the department was closed while the contents of the man’s backpack were investigated.

Officials say it contained computer components.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the man had no criminal intent, and no charges were filed.

The incident lasted for two hours, according to fire marshals on the scene.
