Frederick Man Sentenced To 25 Years Total Imprisonment

He was convicted on firearms charges.

Frederick, Md (KM) It’s off to prison for a long time for a Frederick man. Trotez Jevon Leonard, 34, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm. “Unfortunately for him, he happened to be a felon,” says State’s Attorney Charlie Smith. “So he’s going to prison for 10 years, five of which are mandatory minimum without parole.”

Leonard pleaded guilty to 1st-degree assault for shooting another man inside of a car on Buckeystown Pike in May, 2006.

He served eight years behind bars before he was released in 2014. Leonard had asked a judge to be let out of prison so he could get into a drug treatment program.

In September, 2015, Leonard was charged with five firearms offenses. In July, a jury convicted Leonard of possessing a firearm and ammunition.

Also on Friday, Leonard was sentenced to 15 years for violation of probation.

“Mr. Leonard is going to be going to jail for a long time, 15 plus ten,” says Smith. “The first of which is a mandatory minimum without parole. We’re not going to see him for a good period of time.”
