FREDERICK, Md. (KR) Heavy winds were an issue in a barn fire that ended in a total loss for one local family.
At 11:45 PM on Wednesday, firefighters from Frederick, Carroll and Franklin counties responded to Creagerstown Road near Thurmont to find multiple barns engulfed in flames and the fire spreading to a nearby wooded area.
Kevin Fox with the Division of Fire Rescue Services for Frederick County, said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“So a lot of fire units out here. We have a non-hydrant area which required tankers from all over the region to respond in and assist. It took four hours to extinguish the bulk of the fire,” said Fox.
He said the barn collapsed on itself and four billy goats died in the fire.
“Approximately 70 firefighters and there were no firefighter or civilian injuries,” said Fox.
Crews were still on the scene early Thursday taking care of hot spots from the fire that re-kindled.
