Fire Damages Townhouse Near Hagerstown

Damage is estimated at $245,000.

 

Hagerstown, Md (KM) A child playing with fire is being labeled the cause of a townhouse fire in Hagerstown Wednesday afternoon. That’s according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, which says 76 fire fighters responded to a the two-alarm blaze at 20329 Kelly’s Lane. It took them ten-minutes to bring the flames under control.

There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $200,000 to the structure, and $45,000 to the contents.

The family was displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire started in the garage and was discovered by an occupant.

The home had working smoke alarms which activated. It also had a sprinkler system, but it was not present in the area where the fire originated. The sprinkler did activate when the fire entered the interior of the three-story townhouse.
