Out of 11 businesses checked, two were not in compliance with tobacco laws.
Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick Police Department conducted a tobacco compliance check on 11 Businesses on Tuesday. Authorities say they worked with an underage volunteer who entered the stores to see if they were in compliance with the law.
Nine refused to sell the youth any tobacco They were:
-Joey’s Express – 430 E. Patrick St.
– Giant Eagle – 1305 W. Patrick St.
– Safeway – 927 W. 7th St.
– Weis Markets – 448 Prospect Blvd.
– Vape Addictions – 4 S. McCain Dr.
– BP – 2050 Yellow Springs Rd.
– Sheetz- 1600 Rosemont Ave
– Dollar General – 902 N. East St
– Walmart
But two did sell “smokes” to the young volunteer. They are:
Giant Food – 1700 Kingfisher Dr
V Rocks Vapor Shop – 1713 Rosemont Ave.
The operation was funded by a grant administered by the Frederick County Health Department.
Police say there is merchant training for sales clerks to help them be compliance with the laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors.
