Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Day On Saturday

It’s only for residential waste, not businesses.

 


Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick County residents who have household hazardous wastes in their homes can get rid of them this weekend. The Department of Solid Waste Management is holding its Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off event on Saturday, September 30th from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Public Safety Training Facility, 5370 Public Safety Place, just off of Reichs Ford Road.

Officials say only residential hazardous waste will be accepted; no materials from businesses.

The accepted items include compact and fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, rechargable batteries (not alkaline), household cleaners, pool chemicals, mothballs and photographic chemicals  They can also bring flares, fuels, thinners and fungicides. What is not permitted are pharmaceuticals, biomedical waste, firearms, ammunition, explosives, freon tanks and radioactive materials.

There is no charge for this service.

Items usually accepted at Department of Solid Waste Management facilities,such as solidified paint, alkaline batteries, motor oil, antifreeze,tires, lead-acid batteries, household trash or recyclables will not he accepted for the Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off event.
