One Person Killed in Fatal Accident in Jefferson County, WV

The investigation is continuing into a fatal accident in West Virginia.

Kearneysville, WV  (LG)  One person was killed in a two vehicle accident Thursday on Middleway Pike, near Shirley Road, in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Investigators said Sheriff’s Deputies responded and found a dump truck carrying gravel rolled over on to a passenger car. The driver of the dump truck was able to self-extricate, however, the individuals inside the passenger car were trapped. One of the passengers in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Extrication efforts took approximately 40 minutes, according to investigators.

Police said a dog was also found alive within the debris of the passenger car but was transported to Hillside Vet with multiple injuries that will require extensive surgeries.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the dump truck was traveling westbound when a tire blew causing the driver to lose control and travel into the eastbound lane where it collided with a Chevy Cruze. The dump truck and passenger car then exited the roadway and came to a stop in a soybean field where the dump truck’s load shifted and caused the vehicle to roll, coming to rest on top of the passenger car.

Blue Ridge Veterinary is accepting donations on the owner’s behalf to assist with these surgeries. They can be reached at 540-338-7387. Reference the dog brought in by Jefferson County Animal Control that was involved in the accident.
