The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is Investigating Fraudulent Calls from Scammers Claiming to be Sheriff’s Deputies

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of several fraudulent calls from scammers.

Carroll County, MD  (LG)  The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a scam that’s circulating.

Authorities say scammers are calling citizens and claiming to work for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say in one instance, the scammer claimed to have paperwork for the victim and needed to serve it. The complainant knew the call to be fake, and stated that she would contact the sheriff’s office to verify the information, according to a press release. The caller told her to call back using the number off of her caller, ID, which was actually a phone number associated with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will never call to request payment in the place of a warrant or summons. And if you should receive a call like this, you’re asked to contact the sheriff’s office directly at 410-386-5900.
