Two-Vehicle Crash On I-70 Kills Hagerstown Woman

Her vehicle collided with a tractor trailer.

 

 

Hagerstown, Md (KM) A Hagerstown woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 Wednesday afternoon.

State Police in Washington County say Rakiesha Tayana Mathis, 42, was the operator of a Dodge Caravan which was traveling in lane one eastbound on I-70 nearĀ  I-81. The vehicle entered the lane two, and the driver over corrected. Her vehicle then went airborne over the median, landing in the westbound lanes, where it struck a tractor trailer hauling two trailers.

Mathis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, identified as Gregory J. Esthers, 62, of London, Ohio, was not hurt.

Westbound I-70 in that area was closed for several hours while troopers conducted their investigation.

State Police say Mathis, who died in the crash, was the at-fault driver.
