Frederick County Highway Operations Announces Temporary Closure of Sumantown Road at Bridge Over Catoctin Creek

The closure will last approximately 4 weeks, weather permitting.

FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick County Office of Highway Operations announced  that there will be a temporary road closure on Sumantown Road at the bridge over Catoctin Creek between Old Middletown Road and Maryland Route 383 (Broad Run Rd). The closure will start on or about Monday, April 23, 2018, and will last approximately four weeks, weather permitting. This will allow the Office of Highway Operations to make minor repairs to the bridge.
This structure was built in 1910 and rehabilitated in 1999. It is a single span steel through Pratt truss bridge. The span of the truss is 101 feet with a clear deck width of 14.9’. It has a glue-lam timber deck. The railings and beams are supported by two parallel trusses. The bridge itself is in good condition. The closure is to repair the concrete back walls on both ends of the bridge.
A detour route will be in place during the road closure using Old Middletown Road, Maryland Route 383 (Broad Run Road) and Maryland Route 180 (Jefferson Pike). The Office of Highway Operations has notified emergency personnel and school agencies
