Prescribed fires will occur for several weeks.
FREDERICK, MD. (LG) Beginning Monday, April 23rd, 2018, prescribed fires will be conducted at Catoctin Mountain Park, near Chimney Rock and Wolf Rock.
In a press release officials said it’s an effort planned by fire officials to promote the growth of native plant and tree species. It’s also to rejuvenate up to 18 acres of park forest.
Prescribed fires reduce litter and downed limbs, which in-turn, reduce the chance that unwanted wildfires will occur. Extensive safety measures will be in place to protect park visitors and neighbors during these operations, which will continue through May 4th.
