TransIT Of Frederick County Launches New App Next Week

It allows passengers to pay for bus tickets using their mobile phones.

Frederick, Md (KM) Residents who get around using TransIT of Frederick County will have a new way to pay their fares beginning next week. The agency will be introducing Token Transit on Monday, October 15th. “We decided to pair  the Token Transit launch with Try TransIT week,” says Kendall Tiffany, the Community Relations Manager for TransIt.

It will allow passengers to purchase their bus tickets with their smart phones ahead of time for themselves, or they can buy their tickets on line and send them to someone’s smart phone. .

Residents can download this app can text TOKEN to 41411, or go on line to www.tokentransit.co/app. TransIT says all new app users will receive a one-time 50% off coupon on the One Day Pass with their first purchase.

Even though there will be no coins dropped into a fare box, Tiffany says the bus driver will know if those passengers have paid their fares. “When they purchase their pass as they see the bus approaching, they will activate their ticket on their phone which is active for an hour so it allows them to transfer to different buses if they need to,” she says. “It will have a rotating time , a special picture for the day and the date. And that’s how the driver will be able to verify that they can use this mobile ticket.”

Tiffany says  this Token Transit app will replace TransIT ezFare which will be discontinued on October 31st. “And we will go through and access who has unactive tickets that are still in their wallet, if you will,” she says. “And we will be able to transfer those tickets for those customers to the new Token Transit app.”

The Token Transit App is used by other transit agencies around the country. TransIT of Frederick County is the first one in Maryland to introduce this new ticket purchasing app.
