Woman Killed Following Pedestrian Accident On I-70

State Police say she was struck by another vehicle  after her car crashed.

 

Mount Airy, Md (KM)   A fatal pedestrian accident early Friday evening on Interstate 70 in Howard County remains under investigation.

Maryland State Police say a woman was operating a Volvo eastbound on I-70 near the Howard and Carroll County line in Mount Airy. when for unknown reason,  it crashed into the guard wires in the median.   She got out of her car on the passenger side and attempted to cross eastbound I-70, but she was  hit by another vehicle.

Howard County Fire and Rescue personnel responded, and pronounced her dead at the scene.   Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.

I-70 eastbound along the Howard and Carroll County   line remained closed while the State Police CRASH Team conducted their investigation.

The State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
