WFMD is proud to announce our selection of the two high school Athletes of the Month for January, 2019: Basketball players Trumaine Strickland, a senior from Tuscarora High School and Saylor Poffenbarger, a sophomore from Middletown HIgh School. The Athlete of the Month programming is sponsored by Premiere Dental Arts, Altimate Electric and Canyon Contracting.
Trumaine Strickland is a multi talented basketball player but perhaps his most exciting ability is to drive to the basket , even under what seems like solid defensive work by the opposing team. On the fast break he is close to impossible to stop and will find the smallest of openings on his way to the basket. He also can shoot the “Threes” and has an excellent mid range jump shot. His speed often gets him open to make beautiful passes to teammates.
Saylor Pofffenbarger has the ability to dominate games both offensively and defensively. She has a deadly three point shot but can also drive to the basket and can pass off in mid flight to her teammates. She sees the entire floor and can pass from anywhere. Like Trumaine, she has an excellent jump shot. On defense she is a proficient shot blocker and at 6’2″ can rule both the offensive and defensive boards with her rebounding.
